Purpose Statement/Position Summary: The Music Therapist plans and implements workshops and related activities for children with the purpose of providing medical and psychosocial therapy through music. The Expressive Arts and Therapies team is responsible for providing Music Therapy services for the inpatients at CHLA. Therapists can work with a variety of diagnoses, and age ranges from neonates through children aging out of the hospital. Music Therapists have opportunities to work with caregivers and family members as well. After meeting the patient and assessing, Music Therapists adapt their interventions to meet the unique needs of the patients. They can address the following needs and more: family bonding, developmental stimulation, communication skills, mood regulation, coping skills, pain reduction, legacy/end of life work, and navigating psychosocial stressors. Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience: 1+ years clinical internship in Music Therapy, with an emphasis on working with pediatric populations. Competent musician with guitar, piano & vocal skills. Bilingual in Spanish preferred. Minimum of a Bachelor of Arts degree from an accredited college or university in Music Therapy required. Current American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider CPR certification required. Board-certified Music Therapist (MT-BC); NICU-MT; or at least completion of Tier 1 training with plans to become fully certified within the next year.
